Measles, mumps and rubella spread easily and can cause serious complications in adults, including pneumonia and, with mumps, painful swelling of the testicles. Two doses of MMR give long-lasting protection. If you don't have a record of 2 doses or a blood test showing immunity, the vaccine is recommended, especially if you work with children or patients or travel often.
