Description
Pulmicort Budesonide 0.25 mg/ml Sterile Nebulising Suspension is a prescription respiratory medication containing budesonide, a potent inhaled corticosteroid formulated as a sterile suspension for nebulizer use. When delivered through a jet nebulizer, the solution turns into a fine mist that is inhaled directly into the lungs, where budesonide works to reduce inflammation and swelling in the airway walls, helping to improve airflow and ease breathing for people with chronic asthma. Budesonide for nebulization is primarily prescribed as a maintenance (controller) therapy for patients with persistent asthma, including adults and young children (from about 12 months old), especially when the use of a pressurized inhaler or dry powder inhaler is unsuitable or ineffective. It helps prevent asthma symptoms and reduce the frequency of asthma flare-ups but does not act as a rescue treatment for sudden asthma attacks, a quick-relief bronchodilator should be used for acute symptoms. For optimal effect, the suspension in each 2 ml ampule is typically administered once or twice daily via a nebulizer machine connected to an air compressor, as directed by a healthcare provider. Consistent use over time supports maintenance of pulmonary function by decreasing chronic airway inflammation, making breathing easier and lowering the risk of severe exacerbations.
