Proxen 250mg Tablets is commonly used for short-term management of pain and inflammation caused by several conditions, including arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, tendonitis, bursitis, menstrual cramps, headache, migraine, muscle pain, back pain, and tooth pain. It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause fever, pain and inflammation (redness and swelling). It specifically blocks arachidonate binding to competitively inhibit both cyclooxygenase (COX) isoenzymes, COX-1 and COX-2, resulting in analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Cyclooxygenase enzyme is required to convert arachidonic acid in the body into inflammatory mediators thromboxanes, prostaglandins, and prostacyclins. Given its overall tolerability, effectiveness and longer half life, naproxen can be considered a first line treatment for a variety of clinical situations requiring analgesia.
