Elicasal Ointment which contains Mometasone furoate in combination with Salicylic acid is indicated primarily for the treatment of eczema, psoriasis or hyperkeratotic and dry corticosteroid responsive dermatoses where cornified epithelium may resist penetration of steroid, like chronic lichenified eczema, lichen simplex, lichen planus and plaque psoriasis and atopic dermatitis unresponsive to less potent cortocosteroids. Mometasone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Salicylic Acid is a keratolytic medicine which breaks down keratin clumps, removes dead skin cells and softens the skin. It also enhances the absorption of Mometasone into the skin.
