During the very first phases of pregnancy, the fertilised egg is carried from the Fallopian tubes to the uterus, where it implants after about seven days. In this phase, the tissue that will eventually form the placenta starts producing human chorionic gonadotropin, also known as the HCG hormone, which is essential for the development and continuation of the pregnancy.
