Soflax Lactulose oral solution contains 670mg of lactulose in each ml indicated for constipation relief. Lactulose belongs to the classification of laxatives. It is a disaccharide derivative of lactose used to treat constipation. It works by increasing the amount of water absorption, by drawing water into the bowel to soften the stool, making it easier to bowel movement. It prompts the intestinal muscles to expel out the stool by increasing pressure. Constipation is a condition in which a person has uncomfortable or infrequent bowel movements. Generally, bowel movements result in passage of small amounts of hard, dry stool, usually fewer than three times a week which is due to absorption of too much water from the colon. As the food moves from stomach to intestine, the intestine absorbs the water. Muscle contractions then push the stool toward the rectum, and by the time the stool reaches the rectum, most of the water has been absorbed, making the stool solid which results in difficult and painful bowel movements or feeling bloated or uncomfortable. Chronic constipation can cause complications, such as hemorrhoids, or anal fissures (tears in the skin around the anus) which occur when hard stool stretches the sphincter muscle. This can result in rectal bleeding. Soflax lactulose solution helps to relieve painful bowel movements by softening stool and making it easier for bowel movement.
